Blogging is a much accepted term and practice now days but alot of artist do not understand the value of a blog or how to use it or even why.
Blogging is a way to express yourself whether about your music or just your state of mind or thoughts on something and to be able to do it with more than just the 140 characters you are allotted on twitter. Its another way to engage your fanbase and allow them to see deeper into who you are as an artist and a person.
I highly recommend you start a blog as an artist and promote it as most top artist do like Kanye for example. I found this article that will give you more insight on blogging as an artist.

As an artist protecting your song or songs is a MUST but the Library of Congress copyright fee can be way too much to pay to protect your whole song collection. I am here to tell you there is a new way and it is much less expensive! Its called Digital Imprinting! Basically you upload your song or songs and it gives it a digital time stamp (which you get a certificate of registration and key code to establish your copyright) and establishes you as the owner of that song from that moment in time and forward provided it has not been uploaded by someone else first!
Here is a link that will answer all your questions about the process and save you tons of cash yet allowing you to protect all your songs. Make HITS and protect them!

Twitter and Facebook can be a great place for artist to build a fanbase and make new relationships and friends but it can also kill all of those things I just mentioned QUICKLY.
In this new music model of online marketing and social media artist have an opportunity like never before to get themselves out there but there is a problem with this model. Some artist don’t understand there is a delicate balance you have to walk that will build your business or end it and it starts with SPAMMING!
You know what I’m talking about… people follow you or add you as a friend and haven’t even taken the time to even find out who you are I mean they haven’t looked at your profile or went to your links or even so much as ever written ANYTHING to you then it happens. “CHECK ME OUT… LISTEN TO THIS… GO HERE… DO THIS… DO THAT…” and you just laugh and unfollow or unfriend and move right along. How is that for Fanbase Building 101! Yet this is the old school guerilla tactics that are used on you.
Look I’m not a Twitter or Facebook pro and I have done my share of guerrilla marketing but I think I have learned and grown into a better engaging communicator. I mean thats what buidinag a fanbase or any business relies on YOUR ABILITY TO CONNECT WITH AND RETAIN RELATIONSHIPS, FREINDS AND FANS!
If you want to grow as an artist learn how to engage and attract people who want to know more about you versus forcing someone who has only seen a profile pic of you (if that) to take heed of your narcissistic greatness.

Most artist have websites but they don’t really understand why the need it or what they have it for. I’m going to give you a little bit of insight of why you should have it and what it is for.
A website for you as an artist is like your online house where you encourage EVERYONE to invite everyone to your online house (website) freely at any time day or night because you want everyone to know who you are and the things you have amassed and accomplished so that everyone can fall in love with you and everything about you and go out and invite more people back to your website until you and your online house (website) become the talk of the town or internet or even better, both. This is called “Branding” yourself. If this is done properly you can become a highly sought after brand and a viral sensation and build a huge community of followers and fans that will buy all your brands merchandise that you make available on your website. This makes you an asset that labels will want to sign and do business with if you know how to and can make all this happen.
Its really that simple and your website should look GOOD and make you look good in return like your car when you ride out to the club or your actual home when you invite people over. Here is some “REAL TALK” info about why you need a web presence because if you do not have one in this day and time the people in the music business will not consider you a star or successful and pass right over you to find someone who has accomplished this task. Sh-tty but TRUE!
If you need help with the knowledge of how to make this happen this might help…

This may very well be the MOST IMPORTANT information I ever give you.
In this online digital age its much easier now to get picked up and signed by a label BUT… There is still a RIGHT and wrong way to do it! Let me make this clear “YOU MUST HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO PROPERLY BUILD A FANBASE!” This is not as simple as it sounds but this is what labels will pay top dollar for. You want to start a bidding war for your services as an artist than you build a huge fanbase that wants EVERYTHING you put out from music to t-shirts to coffee cups or what ever and you will get your bidding war. Getting the deal is in the fanbase and I can tell you now sending your music links to everyone on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Linked In and any other social network or site that you can think of or belong to is NOT going to build you a huge fanbase.
Here is the trick… the trick is to get your fans to send out your links to everyone on these sites for you to give you creditbility that will make people buy into you as a HOT artist they should know about. THIS is what you want… spamming just pisses people off then they block or ignore you. If your hot they will find you because everyone will be talking about you.
A perfect example of this (like him or not) is Soulja Boy. Have you ever looked at his twitter profile and feed? If so you already know how his fans go crazy over anything he does and they promote the H-ll out of him. If you don’t believe me go to his twitter timeline and look at it right now and you will see what I am telling you live and in action. This is how you get a deal in this day in time. You have to learn how to create that type of loyalty from your fans and it starts with charisma, reciprocity, relationship building and selling and most importantly incredibly hot hit records. You don’t have to be the best rapper or singer again (Soulja Boy, J-Lo, etc) but you have to know how to build your fanbase, engage them and get them to respond ferociously on your behalf and promote you to EVRYONE EVERYWHERE. When you get this right YOUR SIGNED!
I have said a lot in this post and there is plenty more to be said on this subject but that will be for a later time. Right now just know you need this knowledge of how to do this and I will provide you with a link below that might help! Invest in yourself and your career as it may well be the best investment you will ever make!

There are still artist out there that do not understand the importance of mastering or even really know what it is or is supposed to do. Most artist will tell you it makes your music as loud as possible but mastering is much more than that. As I always say “Your sound is your signature” and if you want to stand out amongst the thousands of other artists who are doing the same thing you are then you need to have your music mixed properly first then MASTERED! Mastering sweetens the final sound by tweaking and fine tuning your music across all frequencies. This is how you get that professional sound provided that your mix is incredible. Its important as an artist to make sure you sound as incredible as possible on your songs so you can stand out so I provided a link to give you a little more insight into what mastering is all about. Educate yourself!

Alot of artist have no Idea what publishing is well enough to know this is where the money is at. Now before you go running off trying to be your own publisher (Greed is Good! -G. Geko) not necessarily for an artist trying to do self publishing and here is why. You are only as good as your publishing presence and the amount of contacts you have in the music business! Did you read that? What that means is if you DO NOT have the relationships to get your songs placed with artist especially major artist then you will be a BROKE PUBLISHER! But you will be a publisher though. Look its always best to align yourself with publishers who have the power, resources and relationships to really work you music and get it placed plain and simple! You just focus on giving them hit records and the rest will take care of itself. Here are a few reasons you should sign a publishing deal with a professional publisher versus trying to do it yourself.

Artists careers are often blown up or blown up by good or bad management. You certainly want to align yourself with a manager who shares your vision for your career and has the ability to make that vision a reality. If you have someone that is as passionate about managing you as you are about your music and career but they don’t have all the connects yet stick with them because if they believe in your talent and are hungry they will eventually build their management business to a success along with your career too. The key is that your manager believes in you and goes hard at getting you out there. With that being said here is a link to an inexpensive book of info that just may be able to help you. Its your career INVEST in YOU!
